Watch a demonstration of Wes-Tech Automation’s new efficient robotic container stacking project! This successful automated process robot system was achieved for a customer in the healthcare industry. The robotic system stacks five containers high at a speed of more than six containers per minute. The containers are then transported on a continuous running conveyor, entering the system open end-down. As they pass through the system, two automated stamping stations print and apply labels—an essential step for tracking and compliance in this industry. The customer verifies the accuracy of all printed data on the container labels. Once the containers reach the robotic arm, a six-axis robot equipped with a vacuum gripper takes over, deftly picking up each container at the end of the first conveyor line. The automated robotic arm then stacks the containers onto a second takeaway conveyor system with ease and precision. Completed stacks are then released via pneumatic gates, ready for their journey to the pack-off station.To maintain the highest standards of safety and quality control, this automated robotic stacking system include a reject drop-off point. If a container is missing a label or the label is unreadable, it’s automatically diverted to the rejection point located within the robot cell. This quality assurance ensures that only compliant products make it through the automated system.In the healthcare industry, safety is paramount. Automated Robotic Stacking System in the Healthcare Industry | Wes-Tech Automation
Wes-Tech successfully addressed the complex requirements of a car seat manufacturer by developing a flexible subassembly lean cell capable of handling multiple part types, including left and right-hand variants, on parallel lanes to produce power car seat H-frames.This video demo showcases the first of three stations involved in the H-frame assembly process. The initial station simultaneously assembles left and right rails. The process includes positioning gearboxes on spindles, applying grease, installing washers and nuts, and riveting the spindle to the rail.Key Steps in the Automated Assembly Process: 1. Component Loading: An operator loads spindles, gearboxes, washers, and nuts. 2. Greasing: Grease is applied to the spindles. 3. Gearbox Positioning: Servo drives position gearboxes on spindles and orients them for subsequent assembly. 4. Nut Installation: Nut-runners drive nuts onto spindles, and crimpers secure them in place. 5. Insertion and Riveting: The spindle/gearbox assembly is inserted into the rail slide, clamped, and riveted. 6. Poka-Yoke: Rubber grommets and pin features are verified for correct installation.Station #2, not shown in this video, is dedicated to motor bracket assembly, which involves attaching a drive motor to a bracket stamping and ensuring all components are correctly installed and error-proofed. Power Seat H-Frame Assembly | Wes-Tech Automation Solutions
At Wes-Tech, we understand that installing insulation as part of a power generator assembly can be both complex and hazardous. Our customer faced challenges with manual insulation installation, which required multiple operators and potentially exposed workers to toxic adhesive fumes and hazardous heat lamps.To mitigate these risks, we developed an automated system that significantly reduces human involvement. The process begins with a single operator applying a gasket to a hood substructure and cycling the part on a rotary table to the next assembly station.A Fanuc robot then takes over, retrieving hood covers from incoming dunnage and accurately positioning each cover for adhesive application. The adhesive is applied by a metered dispensing head, after which the robot places the cover onto a conveyor. The previously gasketed substructure is then placed into the cover.In the manual process, workers had to place these half-assembled hoods into ovens with heat lamps to cure the adhesive, which released toxic fumes. Our automated system accelerates the adhesive bonding time while the hoods are conveyed to the next assembly station. Wes-Tech’s in-line panel clinching semi-automatic system efficiently and precisely uses TOX® clinching technology to attach clips to an appliance panel.In this project, Wes-Tech devised a system for datum-izing, crowding, and squaring various sizes of sheet metal panels so that clips could be secured to the metal in precisely the right location every time.With this system, vacuum gripping heads accurately place an incomplete panel onto a fixture that locates the precise position of the clip, ensuring repeatability and consistency.This repeatable and consistent automation eliminates the potential for wasted parts due to inaccurate clip placement, which, in turn, means tremendous cost savings for our customer. Wes-Tech Panel Clinching In-Line Automation
This 7-speed automatic transmission assembly is a marvel of engineering, comprised of over 400 individual parts and weighing a substantial 165 kg (364 lbs.). The core of the assembly solution is a set of four off-line press stations, each capable of exerting between 60-100 kN (13,500-22,500 lbs.) of force, equipped with servo-actuated positioning tables and CNC-style automatic tool changers for precision and efficiency.A key feature of the Wes-Tech transmission assembly system is a low-profile conveyor system that uses independently powered pallets. These pallets are designed with the capability to perform servo lift and rotate functions, thereby positioning parts accurately for either manual or automatic operations. The conveyor's individual pallets lift, rotate, and reposition components at each station along the production line, ensuring seamless transitions and handling.The gear shafts, including the main shaft and countershaft, are handled by a double-dial Promess® machine. Operators engage with this machine by loading parts onto the lower dial, and press tools are selected from the upper dial—akin to a change-tool turret, which then rotates to the pressing position. After the parts are pressed together, the dial rotates back, allowing the operator to load the next set of components. This efficient design means that all gear shafts for the transmission are pressed at a single station.Wes-Tech’s customer initially proposed a system with 12 different servo press stations, which resulted in low utilization and productivity, with cycle times of one part every 10 minutes. However, the team achieved significant improvements by integrating operations into the 4 servo semi-automatic press stations. This Wes-Tech Knuckle Assembly System, designed for an automotive customer, assembles and validates a high volume of mirror-image (left-hand/right-hand) parts. The assembly system uses a combination of shuttles, conveyors, and Fanuc robots to move parts through the multi-step process, which includes probe-checking, identification pin-stamping, a bushing press, and a press-out test. A collaborative robot (cobot) uses vision guidance to pick and load bushings to a buffer chute. The Wes-Tech Knuckle Assembly system produces one knuckle every 17.5 seconds.In addition to reduced labor costs, our customer has found immense value in the assembly-process data that is now associated with each part, thanks to serialized pin-stamping with sequential ID numbers. The line can produce one part every 15.7 seconds, replacing two manual assembly cells in the plant and meeting increased demand.
